SERMON NOTES: THINGS WILL FALL
Follow God’s simple instruction – pray, fast, worship, and keep your eyes on Him
When Joshua came to the Jericho Wall God gave him very simple instructions: March around the wall until it falls. Joshua obeyed God’s instruction and the wall fell. That same power of obedience will work for us as we walk around the walls in our life. The things you prayed for, the things God promised you, are behind the wall. The things He whispered deep in our spirit are behind that wall.
Walls are coming down this year. God wants you to grow up, humble yourself before Him, and exercise your faith. Faith needs to be constantly used, the more you operate in it the stronger it gets.
If you want something you never had, you need to try something you have never done before. We meet the first Wednesday of every month for prayer & fasting, and the third Sunday of every month for worship – these meetings are pulling down those walls!
The enemy builds walls one brick at a time until you are closed off what God has promised you. The walls are typically made up of bricks of shame, regret, confusion, depression, oppression, unforgiveness, rejection, fear and generational curses. They are going to fall this year. God is going to send “suddenlys” in your life, and the walls are going to come down fast.
Deuteronomy 20:4 tell us that God fights with us to give us victory. The Lord is going to give you extra-ordinary victories this year.
The question is: are you ready to do what God wants you to do? Are you ready to be obedient to His simple command? If you want to see the walls fall, fast and pray and spend more time with the Lord. Coming to church on Sunday is a good thing, but this upcoming year you are going to have to spend much more time with the Lord.
Joshua marched around the wall for six days without speaking so there would be no complaining, doubt, or negativity. On the 7th day the trumpet blew, and the wall came down. Simple. It may have seemed crazy to Joshua, but he didn’t take things into his own hands and do it his way. We should do the same. Follow God’s simple instruction. Pray. Meditate on His Word. Can it be that simple? The Lord says it is. Do what the Lord instructs, and He will back it up and bring the walls down.
Joshua 5:13-14 the commander of the Lord’s army appeared before Joshua. His reaction was to fall on his knees and worship. We should do the same. Take your eyes off the wall and worship. If you don’t know what to pray or how to pray, then just worship. When Joshua looked up, instead of seeing the wall, all he focused on was the commander. He took his eyes off the wall and focused on Jesus. When we do the same, the walls will fall.
Keep your eyes off the problem and just worship Jesus with your eyes fixed on Him.
The Lord is bigger than that wall.
Obey simple instructions – worship – focus comes off the problem and onto the problem solver. He will lead you, guide you, honor you, make a way for you, and bless you.
Take off your shoes, take your eyes off your past, put your past behind you.
When you are with God you are on holy ground. Take off your shoes—put your past behind you and focus only on Him.
Deuteronomy 29:5 – they traveled 40 years through the wilderness and desert … God is not taking you to the same place you’ve been, but you are crossing over to new land. Let go of the past.
Ephesians 6:15 – here shoes represent readiness and preparation. Don’t go out by yourself, but take off your old shoes, spend time with the Lord, and then put on the new shoes and let Him go with you, lead you and direct you.
God asks for your time, and then he will give you instructions that lead to victory.
Joshua 1:6-8 — be strong and courageous is what God said to Joshua, and it is what He is saying to us. He tells Joshua and tells us today to meditate on His Word day and night and be careful to do what He has written. It is then that you will be prosperous and successful.
To be prosperous isn’t just with our money, but be prosperous spiritually, with your family, neighborhoods, towns and states. Prosperity doesn’t just mean finances. Its not by chance you will prosper and be successful… you have to meditate day and night and you will prosper.
Wake up in the morning to the Word of God. Go to sleep at night with the Word of God. Listen to it all day as much as you can. Get it flowing in your mind and through your thoughts. You will be strong, courageous, and successful.
He will bless you going in and going out. He will make you the head and not the tail. He will supply all your needs. You will be bold and courageous and be prosperous and successful. God gets glory when we live like this.
Everything the gospel touches it elevates. Follow his simple instructions. Fix your eyes on Him. Take your shoes off. Mediate on him. Focus your eyes on him.
Sometimes God promises require us to do something. You can sit in chair and say you are waiting on God. Most of the time it takes something on your part to do. Marching 7 days demonstrated the faith Joshua had in God. Rahab the harlot and her family were the only ones protected when the Jericho wall fell. Her obedience to God resulted in the bloodline that led to the birth of Jesus on earth. Joshua and Rahab had no idea how their obedience was to affect the entire world. And what we do will also affect entire generations
God also told Joshua to do is not say a word as he marched. Quit complaining, speaking negative, speaking defeat, just shut up.
Ask Holy Spirit to help you keep your lips quiet and not speak negative things.
Proverbs 29:11 tell us that a wise man holds back his tongue.
Psalm 141:3 – ask the Lord to keep watch over the door of your lips. Don’t say a word. All the enemy should hear is your march of obedience.
2024 will be a wall breaking year for you. Just listen to simple instructions he gave Joshua. You will have the victory over that wall.
