POTTERS AND CAULKERS
Last week we talked about being a potter. This week talked about being a caulker.
Ezekiel 27:4-7 These ships are perfect, their beauty is perfected. This is an image of what we are to be.
Ezekiel 27:9 – Down in the belly of the ship, the seams were caulked by wise and talented men. Likewise, when you get a new door or window in your house you have to caulk it – to seal it. We are supposed to be caulkers.
It does not matter how beautiful your ship is, or how beautiful your home or marriage may be. You need to be a caulker, nonetheless.
The ship is beautiful, but it has to be maintained. Things need to be done for its upkeep. And so things like our home and our marriage need to be maintained. Even we personally need to be caulked, to be maintained.
The caulkers would look at the boards and once in a while would see water seeping in, so they would go and caulk the boards to seal it up to keep it from leaking. They understood that if this ship takes on water it will sink.
Just like us if we start taking on bad things, we will go down.
We need to stop things from coming into our lives.
Genesis 6:14 – The ark was covered inside and outside with pitch. It’s like asphalt. Caulking on outside to keep bad stuff out and on inside to keep good stuff in. Just like windows are caulked on outside to keep cold air from coming in, and caulked on the inside to keep the warm air in.
We need to caulk ourselves to keep some things from coming into our lives: the things we see on the internet and on television, the kinds of friends we have. This goes for our children and grandchildren as well–we caulk ourselves but also have to caulk our kids and grandkids.
What we need is a Holy Ghost caulking gun!!
Caulk what God has given to you in your life. Don’t let what He has given you seep out. If He gives you a Word, caulk it in.
Nehemiah 7:3 is a prophecy for America today. Nehemiah saw that there were things coming in that weren’t good, that not everyone could see. Nehemiah likened it to a fog covering things, that would be exposed when the hot sun came up. In our country there is fog covering drugs, criminals, and other things coming in from our border, among other places. Nehemiah urges us to watch what is coming in.
A rainbow flag does not belong in a church. A BLM flag should not be in a church. We have our flag outside – Jesus King of Kings. We don’t want that sin coming into our church. We need to caulk that spirit from coming into our church along with the people. Let the people in, but don’t let the spirits in.
The boat we are in right now, this church, needs caulkers. It needs potters who will form people’s lives and make their lives better. It also needs caulkers to keep the bad things out.
2 Corinthians 1:22 – He has sealed us and given us the Holy Spirit as our guarantee, as our down payment. We are sealed and caulked by this Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 1:13 also shares that we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
