John 12:12-15 – This is the first time Jesus was recognized as King and Messiah as the people cried out “Hosanna” which means “Save Now.”
Psalm 118:25-26 – Psalmist cried out “Save Now” which is prophetic of the people crying out “Hosanna.”
Psalm 107 – The Israelites were in a cycle where they would sin, then cry out to God, He would deliver them, and then they would sin again. Four times in this Psalm we see the line “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, And He delivered them out of their distresses.” And four times the Lord states that his desire is simply for thanks, seen in the repeated line “Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!”
Zechariah 9:9 A King would ride on a horse larger than all the other horses to show his dominance over his people. Jesus came riding on a colt, a baby donkey, to show he was a servant to his people. The donkey symbolizes the peaceful nature of the King, and palm branches signify victory over the enemy of the soul.
