IS THAT YOU GOD?
Some say God speaks in limited ways today. Others say He works in everything today. But some say He doesn’t speak at all. Do some hear God’s voice and others do not?
The external problems in our life aren’t the biggest problem with God. The biggest problem is if you are not actively involved with God in your life. If we don’t fix the problem on the inside we an never see the problems on the outside fixed.
Our primary goal isn’t to hear God’s voice but to be in a growing relationship with God. When you are in a growing relationship with Him, you will eventually hear His voice.
Jeremiah 33:3 – Call to Me and I’ll answer you. That’s pretty simple. The problem isn’t that He isn’t speaking, the problem is that we aren’t hearing.
There are two reasons why we struggle:
- We are disconnected from God.
- We are connected to this world—then there’s no room for God
Holy Spirit will show you what things of the world that are keeping you from being connected to God.
God would love you to talk more to Him than you talk about Him.
Prayer and Fasting:
Prayer connects us with God. At any time or place you can pray to God.
Fasting disconnects us from the world.
Fasting is not torturing yourself. Find something that takes away your time and let it go for a while=fast from it.
To hear Gods voice you have to turn down the things of the world.
When you pray and fast:
- Set an objective – what do I want to accomplish?
- Decide what type of fast you will do.
- Expect to hear God – when you disconnect from the world and connect with God instead expect to hear his voice.
1 John 4:1 – False prophet
How to discern if it is God you hear:
Test the Spirit
3 questions to ask yourself:
- Does the bible agree with what you are hearing? God’s word is most clearly heard through His word. How many times have you read a scripture time and again, but one day it jumps off the page from you and has a whole new meaning. That’s God. Luke 21:33 – God’s word will never pass away. Opinions change, science changes, facts change, but God’s Word will never change.
- Does Godly counsel agree? Proverbs 19:20, Proverbs 24:6, Proverbs 1:5
- Do you have peace with what you heard? 1 Corinthians 14:33
Seek God’s voice for yourself. Watch out for people who say God told me to tell you this… You need to hear God’s word for yourself first before you can hear God’s word for other people.
We have a God who desires to have a relationship with us. We need to have the desire to have a relationship with Him.
John 10:4-5 Followers of Jesus know His voice, but they do not know the voice of a stranger. This is the point we need to get to in our lives.
