BREAK YOUR PLOW
Last week we saw how Elijah was in cave running from Jezebel. It was there God asked him—what are you doing here? God passed by in wind, earthquake and fire. Elijah went back into cave, put mantle over face and it was then he heard the still small voice of God. Today let’s talk about whispers.
1 Samuel 3:9 – God was trying to speak to Samuel, but he thought it was Eli’s voice he heard. Eli instructed Samuel to say to God, “Speak for your servant hears.” We should do the same.
Proverbs 18:8 The words of whisperer are like delicious morsels, they go down into the inner parts of the body. Think of something you love to eat. That’s what a whisper from God is. Something you should love to hear.
God will speak to you in a whisper. He wants to talk to you. He can speak about the purpose for what you are in now and the season of life, and about the future Hw has for you. There are people counting on you hearing God’s voice. The plan of God in your life depends on you hearing His voice. You should pray what what Eli told Samuel to do – Speak Lord, Your servant hears.
1 Kings 19 — When Elijah called Elisha, he took his mantle and threw it over Elisha, pulled it back, and kept on walking. Elisha was out in the field plowing his 12 oxen. The voice of God came to Elisha saying there goes the will of God. In that moment Elisha broke his plow, killed the oxen, and ran after Elijah.
Sometimes you have to walk away from what you do every day and just do what God tells you to do.
1 Kings 2:1-11 Elijah is being taken away but first ask Elisha, what can I do for you before I go? Elisha asked for a double portion. Elijah said if you see me go, it will be for you. Elisha saw the chariot take Elijah. Since he saw, the double portion was granted.
When you break your plow, you are breaking what you believe your life should be and accepting what God has for your life. You say no longer my will Lord, but Yours.
Matthew 4:4 The Word proceeds from the mouth of God. The Word proceeded from God’s mount when he stopped Abraham from killing his son Isaac as an offering. The greatest thing we can do with our kids and grandkids is to “put then on the altar”, meaning we need to trust God to take care of them.
Genesis 22:16-17 All the blessings of Abraham happened because he heard God’s voice and obeyed what he heard..
Your greatest whispers are not in your past. Your greatest blessings and directions are in our future. Either God is going to call you home, or He is going to take you home when He blows the trumpet.
Break your plow and go after him.
